Explosion happens at oxygen filling station in Ulyanovsk, one worker dead

ULYANOVSK. Nov 22 (Interfax) - An explosion occurred at an Ulyanovsk workshop filling oxygen cylinders on Thursday. A 50-year-old workshop employee died.

The Ulyanovsk regional emergency situations department website reported that the accident happened at about 11:00 a.m. Moscow time because of excessive pressure in the air separation unit. "The explosion killed a man born in 1962. Window glass was broken in the workshop, and the air separation unit was destroyed," the report said.

The accident happened near the first heating power plant of Ulyanovsk but did not disrupt its work, the department said.

"There has been no disruption in public utilities. Heating and electricity supply is normal. A task force of the regional emergency situations department is working on the accident scene. The workshop belongs to a commercial organization," the report said.
