Runaway Yekaterinburg cash collector seized in Perm territory
YEKATERINBURG. Nov 26 (Interfax) - An Investbank cash collector who stole the money he was carrying to the bank's office in Yekaterinburg in mid-November has been detained, Sverdlovsk regional police spokesman Valery Gorelykh told Interfax.
He said the regional criminal investigation police had caught the cash collector at the Ust-Kachka health resort in the Perm territory.
The suspect was transported to Yekaterinburg for investigative procedures, he said. "The cash collector explained what he did with a heavy loan burden and the sickness of his father who, he said, had disabilities of the first category," Gorelykh said.
The detainee said he wanted to give the stolen money to the needy. The police learned though he had spent some of it. The remaining sum was impounded.
Sverdlovsk regional police chief Mikhail Borodin ordered to reward the officers for seizing the suspect.
The cash collector disappeared in Yekaterinburg on November 16 with 8 million rubles. He was wearing a flak jacket but did not have a gun.
A Niva cash collection vehicle was en route to a Central Bank office. The driver, a guard and the cash collector were in the vehicle. The vehicle entered the office's lot and four bags of money were unloaded. Then the driver and the guard left, and the cash collector stayed to hand over the money.
The driver and the guard spent about an hour waiting for the cash collector but he never came out. Then they reported the situation to their superior and the latter called the police.
It appeared that the cash collector gave only three bags to a bank employee. The bags contained banknotes of small denomination. He carried the bag with approximately 8 million rubles through the back door.
It appeared that the cash collector had about ten loans to repay.
A theft case was opened.
