Moratorium on issuing subsoil licenses should be abolished - Nazarbayev

ASTANA. Nov 28 (Interfax) - Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said the moratorium on issuing subsoil use licenses ought to be abolished.

"The moratorium that I introduced needs to be abolished," Nazarbayev said at a meeting with akims (governors) of all levels in Astana on Wednesday.

"If a region is able to attract investment for developing a mineral deposit, some of the profit should be left to the region as an incentive. We need to examine the question and see what we can do," he said.

`"I order the government to carry out analysis and come to an agreement with the region to make the regions interested in attracting investment," the president said.

The moratorium on issuing subsoil use agreements in Kazakhstan has been in place since 2008.
