Rosneft's acquisition of TNK-BP is a good message for world energy sector - Alekperov

MOSCOW. Nov 28 (Interfax) - Rosneft's acquisition of TNK-BP is a good signal to the world energy community, Lukoil's president, Vagit Alekperov, told journalists.

"I believe that it [the acquisition] is a good message for the world energy community that such major companies can be formed in Russia, in that the president and government have declared that Rosneft's privatization won't be delayed but will continue," he said.

Alekperov said that Rosneft has paid a "real price". "Of course, it will become the biggest company and gain a significant synergy from several assets being located in the same provinces," he said.

It was earlier reported that Rosneft is buying up all of TNK-BP. Rosneft has already signed the necessary binding documentation to close the purchase of BP's 50% stake in TNK-BP. Rosneft will pay BP around $12 billion in funds. Furthermore, the British company will received a 12.84% stake in Rosneft.

Rosneft' is also in active negotiations with other shareholders in TNK-BP, Russian consortium AAR, for the purchase of the remaining 50% stake in TNK-BP. Rosneft plans to pay the consortium $28 million in funds.
