Migrants commit most of their crimes in Moscow, St. Petersburg - interior minister
MOSCOW. Nov 30 (Interfax) - Migrants commit every sixth crime in Moscow, Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev said at a joint meeting of the Interior Ministry and the Federal Migration Service boards on Friday.
"The rate of crimes committed by foreign citizens and against them is the highest in places with the highest concentration of migrants, primarily in Moscow and St. Petersburg. For instance, migrants commit every sixth crime in Moscow and only every 30th across Russia," he said.
World experience shows that underestimation of massive migration and the absence of migration control mechanisms have the most negative consequences, Kolokoltsev said.
"Many countries in Western Europe have encountered this problem. Their programs of migrants' adaptation did not result in complete integration of foreigners with the local society and did not prevent escalation of inter-ethnic and inter-religious tensions," the minister said.
