Approx. 30 billion rubles to be invested in Krasnodar under new development program

KRASNODAR. Dec 3 (Interfax) - The Krasnodar territorial administration has estimated the value of the Capital Image for Krasnodar (2013-2017) five-year development program, the territorial administration reports.

"For years Kuban and its administrative center have been viewed as a strictly agrarian region. Agriculture has been the focus of development. This policy makes us somewhat deficient: we have to build many features of a city with the population of more than a million from the scratch," the report quoted Krasnodar Territorial Governor Alexander Tkachyov.

The new program will attract no less than 28 billion rubles in investment.

The governor stressed the importance of building broad highways with junctions, shopping malls and hotels and rejuvenating the airport, the railroad terminal and bus terminals, "which would draw more investors to Krasnodar and the entire territory."

He ordered the territorial authorities to give more attention to sport and sport facilities, which were in short supply in Krasnodar.

Culture and art are essential for the modern city, too, Tkachyov said. Krasnodar needs an academic operate and ballet theater and a fine arts museum, he said.

Krasnodar territorial authorities will spend more than 3 billion rubles on the program in 2013.

"Fifty-six undertakings have been planned for 2013. Some 1.2 billion rubles will be spent on construction, reconstruction and repairs of social infrastructure, 600 million rubles on environmental protection, and over 1 billion rubles on city development and landscape gardening," the administration said.

A total of 1.5 billion rubles will be spent on repairs to streets next year.

The number of parking lots will triple in 2013.

The program will assign 2.2 billion rubles to modernize public transport in Krasnodar within the five years. Some 210 streetcars, trolleybuses and buses will be bought and electronic displays will be installed at 700 bus stops.
