Apple launches iTunes in Russia

MOSCOW. Dec 4 (Interfax) - Apple has expanded the coverage of its iTunes online store by 56 countries, including Russia.

The service was launched in Turkey, India and south Africa, an Apple press release says.

Russian iTunes customers will have access to over 20 million songs as well as movies, books and apps for the iPhone and iPad.

Songs will cost 15 to 19 rubles compared to $0.99 in the United States. A movie will cost 99 to 349 rubles.

Apple launched iTunes in 2003. The online store currently operates in 119 countries.

Apple will start selling its iPhone 5 in Russia on December 14. The price is due to be announced on December 6. Russian online stores are offering iPhone 5 smartphones starting from 31,000 rubles.

Eldar Murtazin, a leading analyst at MRG, said Apple will send around 50,000 smartphones to Russia by the end of 2012.
