Turkmenistan increases foreign trade turnover with CIS countries
ASHGABAT. Dec 5 (Interfax) - Turkmenistan's foreign trade turnover reached $5.5 billion in the first nine months of this year, exceeding last year's indicator by more than one-third.
Ruslan Komarov, an official with the Institute for Strategic Planning and Economic Development of Turkmenistan's Economics and Development Ministry, believes this indicator characterized the development of trade relations in the CIS.
An article published on the official website "Turkmenistan: Golden Age" on Tuesday states that Turkmenistan's foreign trade turnover with the CIS countries exceeded $5.8 billion in 2011 and exports from Turkmenistan exceeded its import from the CIS countries.
The main exports from Turkmenistan to the CIS are fuel, petroleum products, liquefied gas, plastic and products made of plastic, cotton fiber, cloth and yarn, ready textile, wool, oils (including animal oils) and agricultural products.
Turkmenistan imports from the CIS technological equipment, transport vehicles, black metals and products made of them, timber, construction materials, furniture, rubber resin, pharmaceuticals, fertilizers and chemicals.
Over 300 economic entities with CIS capital were registered in Turkmenistan as of late November 2012. A total of 351 investment projects worth a total of $5.4 billion were registered in Turkmenistan as of November 28, 2012.
Over 60 of all investment projects are conducted by Russian companies and some 20% are conducted by Ukrainian companies.
