Russian auditors find no misuse of funds in installation of webcams at polling stations

MOSCOW. Dec 7 (Interfax) - The Russian Audit Chamber has finished looking into measures by long-distance communication operator Rostelecom (RTS: RTKM, RTKMP) to install web cameras at polling stations ahead of the March presidential election.

"The inspection has been completed. Irregularities in Rostelecom have not been found," Audit Chamber Chairman Sergei Stepashin told Interfax on Friday.

"It has been confirmed that all resources were used as planned. Apparently, the Russian Audit Chamber's constant monitoring over the spending of budget funds allocated for the installation of web cameras for the presidential elections played its role," he said.

"However, there are questions over the further effective application of both web cameras and leased lines provided to the polling stations," Stepashin said.

"These resources could be used in educational programs because the majority of polling stations are located in school buildings," he added.
