EU, U.S. actually block OSCE obligation to resist neo-Nazism - Lukashevich
MOSCOW. Dec 7 (Interfax) - Moscow deems unconstructive the European Union countries' and the United States' approach to the drafting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe's obligations to resist growing aggressive nationalism, neo-Nazism and neo-fascism, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
In fact, those countries have blocked the relevant resolutions, it said.
"We are compelled to state with regret that the position assumed by our partners in the OSCE has not changed. We are deeply disappointed that the EU member-countries that have gone through the greatest 20th century tragedy, keep insisting with amazing persistence on deleting all mentions of World War II, of the OSCE documents adopted earlier in connection with anniversaries of the Victory over Nazism, and of the rulings passed in the Nuremberg Trials, which are part of international law," Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said in answer go reporters' questions about the draft resolution of the OSCE's Foreign Ministers Council in Dublin on the fight against neo-Nazism and neo-fascism.
"In their opinion, these issues have nothing to do with the OSCE agenda, and must be referred to history and historians. In fact, behind all this stand attempts to rewrite the history of World War II, being made by some countries - in other words, the real present-day policy," Lukashevich said.
"Also, the EU members are proposing that the terms 'neo-Nazism' and neo-fascism be removed from the document and they disregard the current connivance in some EU countries at the growing Neo-Nazi sentiment and the glorification of Nazism, and refuse to assume any obligations to combat these new challenges and threats.
Lukashevich also said that "the EU and U.S.-proposed amendments to the draft which aims to unite the OSCE countries' effort in combating the dangerous revival of Nazism and fascism, crudely distorted the essence of our proposals."
"We are convinced that the shameful negligence of the glorification off Nazism in the Baltic states, and of the revival of neo-Nazism in the European countries, can no longer be tolerated. The coming generations will not forgive us for such a passive position," Lukashevich said.
"Too bad the EU and the U.S., by demonstrating their unconstructive approach, have actually blocked the OSCE obligation to resist aggressive nationalism, neo-Nazism and neo-fascism," Lukashevich said.
