Opposition activist Chagayev leaves Russia because of threats by security officer - activist
MOSCOW. Dec 7 (Interfax) - Vsevolod Chagayev, an activist of the opposition group Solidarity, has left Russia because of threats from a law enforcement official, says another Solidarity activist, Sergei Davidis.
"There is no hidden agenda here. He was called for a meeting. He went there and recorded this meeting. He received unambiguous threats, and he considered that leaving would be a reasonable choice for him now," Davidis told Interfax.
Chagayev is already abroad, Davidis said. He declined to specify the country where Chagayev has moved and whether he plans to seek political asylum.
"I do not know anything about this, but I think there are not enough reasons for this so far," Davidis said.
The Dozhd (Rain) television service reported earlier with reference to Chagayev himself that he had a meeting with a special services officer named Alexei.
Chagayev said in a video shown by the TV channel that the man who introduced himself as a security officer proposed that he collaborate with special services and threatened him with a prison term or army service if he refused.
