Ukrainian banking sector assets up 5.9% in 9M

KYIV. Dec 11 (Interfax) - Net Ukrainian banking sector assets grew 5.9% in January-September to UAH1.121 trillion, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) said.

Assets including reserves grew 4.3% to UAH 1.265 trillion (UAH7.993/$1 on Dec. 11).

Issued loans accounted for 65.5% of total assets as of December 1, 2012 (64.9% as of November 1, 2012). The share of assets invested in securities was 8.1% (unchanged).

Liabilities as of December 1, 2012, totaled UAH 951.2 billion. Individuals' assets accounted for their lion's share - UAH 356.9 billion (37.5%). Corporate assets amounted to UAH 181.8 billion (19.1%), while interbank loans and deposits stood at UAH 135.4 billion (14.2%).

The NBU reported that 176 Ukrainian banks had a banking license as of December 1, 2012.
