Kazakhstan cuts gas supply to northern Kyrgyzstan in abnormally cold weather
ASTANA. Dec 16 (Interfax) - KazTransGas has cut gas supply to northern Kyrgyzstan due to abnormally low temperatures, the company said.
"KazTransGas had repeatedly warned Kyrgyzstan about limited gas resources and possible reduction of supplies. Due to abnormally low temperatures, limited supply of Uzbek gas and increased gas consumption in southern Kazakhstan, KazTransGas has limited gas delivery to KyrgyzGas," KazTransGas said.
It noted that gas deliveries to Kyrgyzstan continued despite the Kyrgyz debt of $26.6 million.
KazTransGas supplies Kazakh gas to northern Kyrgyzstan under a bilateral contract.
KyrgyzGas agreed with UzTransGas in November 2012 on the delivery of Uzbek gas to northern Kyrgyzstan starting from December 1. A drop of air temperatures and increased domestic demand forced Uzbekistan to cut gas supply to Kyrgyzstan on the first ten days of December. It stopped gas supply on December 13, 2012.
