Nazarbayev, Abbas discuss situation in Middle East in phone conversation
ASTANA. Dec 17 (Interfax) - Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has congratulated Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and all people of Kazakhstan on Kazakh Independence Day.
Nazarbayev and Abbas had a phone conversation on Monday, which took place at Abbas' initiative, the Kazakh presidential press service reported.
The Palestinian leader gave high marks to the Kazakh president's address to the people of Kazakhstan, in which he outlined the strategy for the republic's development for the period until 2050, and wished Kazakhstan further development and prosperity, the press service reported.
Abbas also thanked Kazakhstan for its persistent position on the settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
"During the conversation, the two leaders exchanged opinions on issues relating to bilateral cooperation and the situation in the Middle East," the report says.
