One injured in Chita explosion

CHITA. Dec 18 (Interfax) - A 52-year-old man was injured in an explosion in Chita, the regional branch of the Russian Interior Ministry said in a press release.

The owner of one of the houses spotted a log near his fence and "tried to push it aside with his foot when an explosion occurred," it said.

"The man crawled to his house and called an ambulance and police," according to the press release.

Police officers and sappers from the Interior Ministry's Transbaikal Territory branch used a sniffer dog to examine the house and the adjacent territory.

The man was hospitalized with an arm fracture and multiple fragmentation wounds.

"A preliminary theory suggests that an improvised explosive device was disguised as a log. An examination of the bomb has been ordered. An investigation is under way," the press release says.
