Limonov not allowed to hold rally on Triumfalnaya Square on New Year's Eve
MOSCOW. Dec 19 (Interfax) - The Moscow city authorities have declined the application of opposition figure and writer Eduard Limonov to hold a rally on Triumfalnaya Square on December 31 hours before the new year.
"We handled the application. Pursuant to provisions of the law, the event cannot be held," head of the regional security department of the city administration Alexei Mayorov told Interfax on Wednesday.
He said that the notification names as organizers individuals who were brought to civil liability several times during the past year. In line with that law, they cannot act as organizers of a public event, he said.
Mayorov said that if opposition activists nevertheless decide to hold an unauthorized action io Triumfalnaya, the police will avert it.
