Doomsday inevitable in 4.5 billion years, have no fear - Putin
MOSCOW. Dec 20 (Interfax) - President Vladimir Putin does not fear doomsday.
"Why fear something inevitable?" he wondered at a grand press conference on Thursday.
Putin said he knew when doomsday would happen, in 4.5 billion years.
The president reminded journalists about the solar life cycle. "Everything will be over in 4.5 billion years, the reactor will shut down, but before that the Sun will turn into a white dwarf. Life will be extinct by then," he said.
The calendar of the ancient Mayan civilization, which ends on December 21, 2012, has caused a new outbreak of doomsday fears.
Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev commented on the heatedly discussed issue earlier.
"I will say a few words about doomsday. I do not believe in doomsday, at least not this year. But I do believe that this year will end. And all of us must prepare for the end of this year," he said in an interview with Russian television channels.
