RGTEU students may resume strike- rector
MOSCOW. Dec 21 (Interfax) - The students and faculty of the Russian State University of Trade and Economics may resume their strike, university rector Sergei Baburin said.
"Yes, the strike will begin if the faculty supports it. They are having a meeting to discuss the matter," Baburin told Interfax on Friday.
The meeting participants will adopt an address to the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics calling on the university "not to take part in looting and to co-exist."
Baburin said he was surprised by the decision made by the Education Ministry to join the Russian State University of Trade and Economics to the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, despite the president's order to investigate the situation with the university, the State Duma's decision to request information on the Russian State University of Trade and Economics in the government, and United Russia's address to Education Minister Dmitry Livanov not to make hasty decisions.
Albert Zaripov, a representative of the Russian State University of Trade and Economics student council, told Interfax a decision on whether the strike will be resumed will be made by the student council, which will meet in the nearest future.
"We have information that an Education Ministry will soon come to us and bring an order, We will not let him in, we will only talk to Livanov. We stopped the strike, hoping for a positive decision. They told us one thing and they are now doing a different thing. The ministry doesn't want constructive dialogue," Zaripov said.
