Ukrainian integration with Customs Union incompatible with Association Agreement - European Commission
BRUSSELS. Dec 25 (Interfax) - Ukraine's rapprochement with the Customs Union is incompatible with the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement, a source at the European Commission told Interfax.
Speaking of the possible full or partial integration with Kyiv with the Customs Union, he said Ukraine would have to choose between EU and Customs Union rules in adjusting national laws.
Ukraine cannot adjust to both, he added. A decision will have to be made, because the Customs Union is incompatible with the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement, he said.
Full integration of Ukraine with the Customs Union will create serious problems, the source said. Ukraine will be unable to hold an independent trade policy and will delegate its sovereignty to the Customs Union with regard to tariffs and other key commercial issues, he noted.
Even partial integration with the Customs Union, which will have an effect on Ukrainian tariffs or trade norms, will be problematic, it said.
