RGTEU students, tutors draft letter to president
MOSCOW. Dec 25 (Interfax) - The administration and students of the Moscow- based Russian State University of Trade and Economics will appeal to the Russian president for cancelling results of the monitoring, which proclaimed the university inefficient, head of the Department of Administrative and Financial Law, Dr. of Law Prof. Anatoly Selyukov told a press conference at Interfax.
"We have drafted a letter to the president requesting support to the university and repeal of the monitoring results. I think the majority of our 80,000 tutors and students will sign it," he said.
The letter text will be posted on the university Web site soon, Selyukov said.
On November 1, the Education and Science Ministry published a list of about two dozen higher educational institutions it rated as ineffective after monitoring 541 state universities and 994 affiliates.
The RGTEU was among those on the list.
The students had a strike on December 18-20. The strike was suspended while students hoped for a decision of the national administration about the university future.
The Education and Science Ministry decided to attach the RGTEU to the Russian Plekhanov University of Economics.
RGTEU students and professors refused to recognize the ministry's decision.
