Ban on child adoptions by Americans won't violate Russia's intl obligations - Peskov
MOSCOW. Dec 25 (Interfax) - The approval of the law banning the adoption of Russian children by U.S. citizens will not lead to the violation of Russia's international commitments, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov has said.
"This will not lead to the violation of any international commitments. By making such a decision Russia fully exercises the rights that it has under international law," Peskov said on Ekho Moskvy radio.
He called quite complex the bill approved by the State Duma in response to the Magnitsky Act. He found it quite natural that the bill sparked off a braod debate in civil society and the expert community.
The State Duma passed the bill barring U.S. citizens from adopting Russian children last week. The Federation Council will handle it on Wednesday.
