Russian govt sells 60,021 tonnes of grain, prices rising
MOSCOW. Dec 26 (Interfax) - The Russian government sold 60,021 tonnes of grain during intervention on the grain market on Wednesday for 518.6 million rubles, the National Commodities Exchange said in a press release.
Sales were higher on Tuesday at 62,100 tonnes for 533.7 million rubles.
A new price record was set on Wednesday, when grade 3 food wheat harvested in 2009 sold for 10,025 rubles a tonne, 25 rubles more than on Tuesday.
The total volume of grain sold since intervention began on October 23 has reached 1.197 million tonnes for 9.8 billion rubles.
The release says that since intervention began, the government has sold 795,100 tonnes of grade-3 food wheat from the 2008 harvest for 6.5 billion rubles, 108,200 tonnes of grade-4 wheat from the 2008 harvest for 888.9 million rubles, 260,400 tonnes of grade-3 wheat from the 2009 harvest for 2.2 billion rubles, 31,700 tonnes of grade-4 wheat from the 2009 harvest for 252.1 million rubles and 1,500 tonnes of grade-4 wheat from the 2011 harvest for 12.4 million rubles.
The weighted average prices for the grain sold on Wednesday were 8,117.2 rubles per tonne for grade-3 2008 harvest wheat (8,099.6 rubles on Tuesday); 8,313.6 rubles for grade-3 2009 harvest wheat (8,287.1 rubles), 8,214.3 rubles for grade-4 2008 harvest wheat (8,146.6 rubles) and 7,947.4 rubles per tonne of grade-4 2009 harvest wheat (unchanged).
