One dies in household gas explosion in Astrakhan region

ROSTOV-ON-DON/ASTRAKHAN. Dec 26 (Interfax) - An explosion of household gas caused destruction and brought in the roof in a two-storey house in Liman district of Astrakhan region, Interfax was told at the Southern Regional Center of the Emergency Situations' Ministry on Wednesday.

"The report of an accident in a residential building in the town of Liman was received at 1:40 p.m.," a spokesman for the center said.

Quoting early reports he said that one person was under the debris after the roof and walls in two apartments came down.

At the press service of the main department of the Emergency Situations' Ministry for the region Interfax was told that the owner of the apartment where the blast occurred died.

"Early reports indicate that the explosion occurred after the owner of the apartment brought in a gas cylinder," a spokesman said.

Rescuers were alerted to the scene and a probe into the incident was launched.
