Inmates injured in blaze in Vologda region - official report

MOSCOW. Jan 7 (Interfax) - Four inmates were injured in a fire that broke out at Prison 17 in the town of Sheksna in the Vologda region, the regional emergency situations department said on its website on Monday.

"A report arrived at 4:25 p.m., local time, saying that a fire had broken out. Fifty inmates were evacuated, four of them sustained injuries. The fire was put out at 5 p.m.," the department said.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a short circuit in a three-by-four meter switchboard room.

Inmate Alexei Shestakov accomplished a daring escape from this prison in March 2012. He escaped by helicopter during a walk, aided by accessories.
