Viral and bacterial pneumonia kills four soldiers in Moscow region - Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Jan 11 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Defense Ministry has confirmed that viral and bacterial pneumonia caused the death of four soldiers serving in different Armed Forces units of the Western Military District in December 2012 and January 2013.

"All four servicemen were diagnosed with viral and bacterial pneumonia following an examination at the hospital," the ministry said in a press release, seen by Interfax-AVN on Friday.

All of the soldiers were urgently admitted to a military hospital in the town of Podolsk, Moscow region, after their condition failed to improve after treatment at their military units' clinics, it said.

"Even the use of intensive complex treatment and the involvement of leading specialists from the A. A. Vishnevsky Central Military Hospital and the S. M. Kirov Military Medical Academy were unable to reverse the rapid negative dynamics of the soldiers' disease," the ministry said.
