Russian media to be fined for swearing
MOSCOW. Jan 14 (Interfax) - The State Duma committee on constitutional legislation and state development on Monday recommended the adoption in the first reading of the amendment to the Code of Administrative Violations establishing fines for swearing in the mass media.
"The bill was signed by representatives of different factions of the State Duma, which indicates the general understanding of the need to resolve this problem," Sergei Zheleznyak, deputy speaker of the State Duma, said.
Zheleznyak said parliamentarians and executive authorities are constantly receiving requests from citizens asking them to prevent the use of foul language on television programs and in the press.
The proposed fine for swearing in the mass media is 2,000 rubles to 3,000 rubles for citizens, 5,000 rubles to 20,000 rubles for officials, and 20,000 to 200,000 rubles for legal entities.
