Freed Georgian political prisoners to sue government
TBILISI. Jan 14 (Interfax) - Former political prisoners amnestied in Georgia will demand compensation and a rehearing of their cases.
Former football player Giorgy Demetradze, who was freed on Sunday with other citizens recognized as political prisoners, told the media on Monday that he would insist on a rehearing of his case.
Demetradze was jailed in 2010 on charges of maintaining ties with criminals and betting.
"I am 100 percent sure I will win the case," the former football player said, adding that he would demand compensation and insist on sanctions against people involved in his arrest.
Ex-political prisoner Vakhtang Maisaya, convicted for spying, said he would file a lawsuit with The Hague War Crimes Tribunal.
One hundred and ninety persons recognized as political prisoners left Georgian prisons on Sunday.
