Fishing decline in Russia slows to 16.5%
MOSCOW. Jan 15 (Interfax) - Russian fishermen have caught 94,400 tonnes of fish since the start of 2013, down 16.5% compared to the same period of 2012, the Federal Fisheries Agency Rosrybolovstvo reported.
As of January 9 the rate of decline stood at 24.2%.
In the Far Eastern basin the catch dropped by 19,800 tonnes to 63,400 tonnes. The Pollock catch dropped to 29,300 tonnes from 51,200 tonnes in the same period of 2012.
In the Northern basin the catch was 16,400 tonnes, 1,300 tonnes more than last year. Cod fishing increased by 600 tonnes to 12,500 tonnes.
In the Baltic Sea the volume of fish rose to 900 tonnes from 800 tonnes, including 200 tonnes of Baltic herring, which remained at the same volume as last year.
In the Azov-Black Sea basin the catch was 1,500 tonnes, 400 tonnes more.
In foreign country zones, Russian fishermen caught 11,800 tonnes of fish, 400 tonnes down on the same period of 2012. In Convention areas and open ocean water Russia caught 400 tonnes, 100 tonnes less than 2012.
