Special operation against trapped militants in Tyrnyauz enters active phase

NALCHIK. Jan 16 (Interfax) - A child has been evacuated from the Tyrnyauz apartment in which militants have been trapped, a source in the regional police force told Interfax on Wednesday.

"The police have managed to evacuate a child from the apartment in which the militants have been trapped. The woman refused to go. Negotiations seem to be pointless, so the special operation is entering an active phase," he said.

Earlier reports said that a group of armed men was trapped in a five-story apartment house on the outskirts of Tyrnyauz in the Elbrus district of Kabardino-Balkaria. The anti-terrorist operation regime was enacted in the town.

"The chief of the Kabardino-Balkaria operative staff enacted the anti-terrorist operation regime in Tyrnyauz at 9:00 a.m. and a number of restrictions were imposed," the operative staff said.
