Belarusian opposition activist subjected to administrative liability for handing out party bulletins

MINSK. Jan 17 (Interfax) - Anatoly Lebedko, leader of the Belarusian United Civil Party, has been notified that he had breached the rallies legislation when handing out party bulletins.

"Today I received an administrative violation protocol by mail. It states that I breached Article 10 of the Belarusian law On Mass Events when I handed out information materials," Lebedko told Interfax on Thursday.

"I am accused of having organized an unauthorized rally by handing out copies of the bulletin Golos Razuma, which states the party's position on privatization. It's utterly absurd from a legal point of view," the politician said.

"It shows once again how the authorities are afraid of any communication between the opposition and citizens. It turns out that the opposition should not have any communications with people at all," Lebedko said.

"The next step is a court summons," he said, adding that the protocol was made on December 29, 2012.
