Uzbekistan ups power output 0.2% in 2012
TASHKENT. Jan 18 (Interfax) - Uzbekistan produced 52.534 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity in 2012, or 0.2% more than in 2011, the State Statistics Committee reported.
Uzbek power plants delivered 18.876 million Gcal of heat to the population and enterprises, down 0.2%.
Coal production edged up 0.2% to 3.853 million tonnes last year.
Over 98% of the electricity generated in Uzbekistan is produced at power plants belonging to state joint-stock company Uzbekenergo, which was created on the basis of the Power Industry and Electrification Ministry. The country's main coal producer, accounting for over 90% of the total, is OJSC Uzbekugol, which is part of Uzbekenergo.
