Russia won't back PACE resolution on humanitarian situation in Abkhazia, S. Ossetia
MOSCOW. Jan 18 (Interfax) - The Russian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will not vote for the resolution, titled "Georgia and Russia: the humanitarian situation in the conflict- and war-affected areas," said chairman of the Russian State Duma's International Affairs Committee Alexei Pushkov.
"We cannot support this document for the sole reason that Abkhazia and South Ossetia are described in it as constituent parts of Georgia," Pushkov told the media.
He said he regrets that the rapporteur on this issue, Tina Acketoft, attached political strings to the report and to the related draft resolution.
However, said Pushkov, Russian lawmakers will propose amendments to the draft resolution which is expected to be passed on Wednesday, January 23.
