Metalloinvest interested in U.S. Steel Kosice in Slovakia - media
MOSCOW. Jan 18 (Interfax) - Russian holding Metalloinvest is interested in integrated steel company U.S. Steel Kosice, located in Kosice, Slovakia, Slovakian newspaper HN reported.
Interfax was unable to obtain comment from a Metalloinvest spokesman.
HN had previously written about other contenders for the factory - Metinvest, Ukraine's leading mining and metallurgical group, and Evraz. However, this information was not confirmed, and the owner of the Slovakia-based factory, U.S. Steel, denied that it was being sold to Metinvest.
As reported, the largest private employer in Slovakia, U.S. Steel, has already held several rounds of negotiations on selling the integrated steel company. U.S. Steel has been forced to sell off its assets in Europe due to its loss-incurring activities.
U.S. Steel Kosice produces up to 4.5 million tonnes of steel a year.
Metalloinvest is the largest iron ore producer in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Its main production subsidiaries are Lebedinsky Mining & Processing (MGOK) , Mikhailovsky Mining & Processing (MGOK) , Oskol Electrometallurgical Combine (OEMK) and Urals Steel. The holding's main beneficiary is businessman Alisher Usmanov.
