Rusal's Sayanogorsk plant doubles production of cast alloys in 2012

ABAKAN. Jan 22 (Interfax) - UC Rusal's Sayanogorsk Aluminum Smelter (SAZ) increased production of cast alloys to 80,000 tonnes in 2012, the smelter said in a press release.

The smelter's press service told Interfax that it produced slightly more than 40,000 tonnes of cast alloys in 2011, so production almost doubled in 2012.

"The growth was driven by increased utilization of equipment, an increase in productivity of existing capacity, as well as the elimination of losses of time and raw materials," the press release said.

"In future we plan to increase production of cast alloys to 100,000 tonnes per year. In order to achieve this goal, in 2013 we plan to acquire and install electromagnetic stirrers at one of the mixers, and an additional Altec press for dross pressing," SAZ managing director Anton Savchenko was quoted as saying by the press service.

The press service said cast alloys make up more than 90% of the smelter's total output. High and top grade products make up more than 99% of output.

Cast alloys (silumin) are produced in the form of small billets and are intended for manufacturing, including automobile wheel discs.
