Sberbank starts taking Visa payWave cards with contactless payment technology

MOSCOW. Jan 22 (Interfax) - Sberbank of Russia has started taking cards with contactless payment technology - Visa payWave, the bank and the Visa payment system said in a joint press release.

As part of its ongoing pilot project, Sberbank has already installed over 300 contactless terminals at several large retailers in Moscow, the press release said.

Overall, Russia is already home to over 50,000 retail and service businesses that offer payments with the Visa payWave card.

In order to make a payment, holders of the Visa payWave card simply have to bring their card to a terminal equipped with technology to accept contactless payments - they do not have to hand the card to a retail clerk. With transactions worth up to 1,000 rubles, Visa payWave card holders do not even have to sign the receipt or enter their PIN code.
