Russian, French diplomats discuss French armed operation in Mali
MOSCOW. Jan 23 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov and French Ambassador to Russia Jean de Gliniasty discussed France's Operation Serval in Mali during a meeting in Moscow on Wednesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
The meeting was requested by De Gliniasty, the ministry said in a statement posted on its website, www.mid.ru.
"The conversation involved a detailed exchange of opinions on developments in the Sahara-Sahel region with a focus on the crisis in Mali and France's Operation Serval to counter the terrorist threat in northern Mali in response to a request from the Mali government. The two sides expressed readiness for constructive work on the Mali issue at the UN Security Council on the basis of Resolution 2085," the statement said.
