Federal Freight Co roughly doubles cargo transport in 2012
MOSCOW. Jan 25 (Interfax) - OJSC Russian Railways (RZD) subsidiary OJSC Federal Freight Company, the former OJSC Freight Two, hauled 54.8 million tonnes of cargo last year, about double what it did in 2011, the railway operator said.
Cargo turnover achieved using rolling stock operated independently reached 119.8 billion tonne/km, 140% more than in 2011.
Freight Two was established in the process of reforming Russia's railway transport as a 100% RZD subsidiary. RZD provided its subsidiary with 156,400 freight cars. In all, Freight Two was to operate 180,100, including 23,700 leased from RZD on sub-rental terms. At the beginning of last year it had 135,000 gondola cars, 25,000 box cars, and around 11,000 flat cars.
