Transneft halts oil pumping to Novorossiysk over pipeline breach

MOSCOW. Jan 28 (Interfax) - Russian oil pipeline company OJSC Transneft has halted the pumping of oil to the port of Novorossiysk due to a pipeline accident in Rostov Region, company Press Secretary Igor Demin told Interfax.

"Along the trunk oil pipeline Saturday night there was a breach resulting in the spilling of around 49 cubic meters of oil. We stopped pumping and began repairs. The plan is to reopen the pipeline after midday on January 29," Demin said.

Transneft has not stopped receiving oil. "We are restricting no-one as to receipt. There is all the storage needed," he said.

Transneft resumed loading oil at the port on January 23, after a stoppage January 17 due to stormy weather. Demin said that the shortage of oil caused by the storm would be made up for next month.
