Vorotan HPP Cascade cuts electricity output 13.3% in 2012
MOSCOW. Jan 29 (Interfax) - CJSC Vorotan Hydro-Electric Power Plant Cascade, the largest HPP cascade in Armenia, cut electricity output by 13.3% to 1.118 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) in 2012, a company spokesman told Interfax.
Electricity supply was also down 13.3%, to 1.111 billion kWh.
Vorotan attributes this reduction to last year's weather conditions, which led to a low water level. The HPP cascade uses the water inflow from the Vorotan River to generate electricity.
The Vorotan HPP Cascade operated as usual last year, without any down time, the spokesman said.
The cascade covers the peak capacities of the Armenian power system, in addition to regulating the frequency of electricity flows from Iran to Armenia and vice versa. Its installed capacity is 400 megawatts.
All of the company's shares belong to the Armenian government, represented by the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry.
