Globaltrans fleet climbs to 66,000 railcars
MOSCOW. Jan 30 (Interfax) - The Globaltrans fleet rose to 66,000 railcars following the transactions of 2012, company materials on the official website show.
These include LLC MMK-Trans carriages, acquired earlier from its top managers and OJSC Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (the deal is to be completed by the end of January), as well as around 4,000 leased railcars (as of December 31 2012).
Capex envisaged the purchase in 2012 of a minimum of 10,000 railcars but more was acquired. The group also purchased the Metalloinvest rail operator - Mealloinvesttrans (MIT, which was later renamed Ferrotrans).
All carriages at the end of 2012 had been integrated in the business and were being provided to customers, Globaltrans said. With the purchase of MIT (a fleet of 8,260 carriages, mostly open-cars), the group obtained a three-year contract with Metalloinvest (which will make 100% of its shipments through the company in the first year and 60% in the next two years). With MMK-Trancom (3,560 cars, 70% of which are open-cars)), Globaltrans obtained a 5-year contract with MMK (shipment of 70% of its cargoes).
Currently two thirds of the group's fleet consists of open-cars and 31% of tankers, while different types of railcar (including locomotives) make up the other 3%.
