Investments in construction of 2 Rostov NPP units to top 76 bln rubles
ROSTOV-ON-DON. Jan 31 (Interfax) - Investments in the construction of the Rostov Nuclear Power Plant's (NPP) third and fourth power units might top 76 billion rubles, the regional Economic Development Ministry said in its materials.
This year and next year, investments in the third unit will total over 30 billion rubles, and in 2013-2016, OJSC Concern Rosenergoatom plans to earmark over 46 billion rubles for the fourth unit.
Originally, the third unit was to be commissioned in 2014, and the fourth in 2017. However, on January 30, Senior Vice President for Economics and Finance at OJSC Nizhny Novgorod Engineering Company Atomenergoproekt (NIAEP) (the general contractor for building the third and fourth unit) Vladimir Katz said during discussions of the framework of the company's annual report that the third unit will be launched in 2015. As planned earlier, the fourth unit should be up and running in 2017.
The third unit has been under construction since 2009, and the fourth since 2010. The Rostov NPP previously said that investments in the construction of both units altogether will come to approximately 130 billion rubles.
The Rostov NPP is located on the shore of the Tsimlyansk reservoir 13.5 kilometers from the city of Volgodonsk. Its first power unit was commissioned in 2001. The second power unit reached first criticality in December 2009, and it was hooked up to the grid in mid-March 2010.
