Filin likely to undergo another surgery

MOSCOW. Jan 31 (Interfax) - The Bolshoi Theater's chief choreographer Sergei Filin will likely undergo another surgery, Alexander Mitichkin, head doctor of Moscow's City Hospital No. 36, told Interfax.

"Indeed, the final eye surgery is scheduled for Friday. We are preparing for it, but the final decision will be made tomorrow after [the patient's] examination," he said.

The Health Ministry earlier said Filin may be sent to Germany for comprehensive rehabilitation on Monday.

Filin, who suffered burns to the face and eyes in an acid attack on January 17, underwent another eye surgery in Moscow on January 28. He underwent three surgeries at Hospital No. 36, two on his eyes and the third to remove burned tissues and close the wounds.

The attack is being investigated on counts of premeditated infliction of bodily injuries. Police link the attack to Filin's professional work.

Filin is a renowned ballet dancer. He took his current leading post at the Bolshoi in March 2011.
