There are no barriers to return of Georgian wine to Russian market - Onishchenko
MOSCOW. Feb 4 (Interfax) - Russia's Chief Sanitation Doctor Gennady Onishchenko has said that there are no significant obstacles to the return of Georgian wine and mineral water to the Russian market.
"There are no vital barriers, as long as politics don't interfere," he said to Interfax on Monday before the beginning of talks with a Georgian delegation that arrived in Moscow.
"We agreed on the agenda. The meeting will begin with a presentation which the Georgian delegation brought along. It is normal as it is they who have come to us. We'll see," the official said.
The deliveries of Georgian wine and mineral water to Russia were interrupted in 2006 in the context of the aggravation of bilateral relations. Poor quality was named as the official reason for the suspension.
Presently, Russia and Georgian do not have diplomatic relations.
Government and business representatives are on the Georgian delegation that arrived in Moscow.
Delegation member, head of the Georgian National Wine Agency Levan Davitashvili said that the resumption of deliveries of fruit and vegetables, not just wine and mineral water to Russia will be in question.
