Latvia imports 10% less gas in Jan-Nov

RIGA. Feb 4 (Interfax/BNS) -Latvia imported LVL 279.009 million, or $397 million, worth of natural gas in January-November last year, LVL 47.46 (20.5%) more than in the same period of 2011, the central statistics department told the Baltic News Service.

The eleven months saw the import of 43,358 terajoules of natural gas (1.14 billion cubic meters (bcm)), 4,613 terajoules (9.6%) less than in the same period of the year before.

Latvia imported 54,003 terajoules of natural gas in 2011, 5.3% less than in 2010, spending LVL 261.618 million for it (6.2% more) than the previous year, including 47,917 terajoules for LVL 231.549 million in January-November.

Latvijas gaze engages in the purchase, transport, storage, and distribution of gas. Its biggest owners are OJSC Gazprom , E.ON Ruhrgas, and Itera Latvija.
