Thirty-one hospitalized with frostbite in Russia over past 24 hours - source

MOSCOW. Feb 5 (Interfax) - One person has frozen to death and another 44 have suffered from frostbite and overexposure to the cold in Russian regions in the past 24 hours, a healthcare sector source told Interfax on Tuesday.

"One person has died in Chuvashia as a result of freezing conditions over the past 24 hours. Another 44 people have been affected. Of them, 31 have been admitted to hospitals," the source said.

The death toll from the cold spell in Russia stands at 239, he said.

"More than 5,300 people, including 238 children, have suffered from frostbite and hypothermia in Russian regions this winter. Of them, some 3,000 were hospitalized," he said.
