Putin: Criticism of new school literature program should be taken into consideration
MOSCOW. Feb 9 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin believes the public's criticism of a new school literature program, from which some classical writers have been reportedly eliminated, should be heard, and the ministries and other agencies concerned should make proper conclusions.
"In my view, justified concerns have been aired that some works constituting our country's historical heritage have been removed from it [the literature program]. I believe it is good when new authors appear; you may have different attitudes toward their political position, but modern literature is part of world literature," Putin said at the Congress of Parents of Russia on Saturday.
However, "when Kuprin, Leskov, Pushkin, Chekhov's 'The Man in a Case', poems by Akhmadulina, Vysotsky, and Okudzhava disappear [from the program], this prompts the question: why, what instead?" Putin said.
