Five militants killed in security operation in Dagestan - NAC
MOSCOW. Feb 12 (Interfax) - Five militants, among them Kurban Guseinov, the "Southern Sector" gang leader's right-hand man, has been neutralized on the border between Dagestan's Derbent and Tabasaran districts, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC) told Interfax.
The militants destroyed also include Timur Mirzekhanov, the gang's regular killer, the NAC said.
Mirzekhanov's record includes the murders of the administration heads in the towns of Lyakhlya and Kushtil in 2012, a school principal in the town of Sovetskoye in the Magaramkent district, and a woman in the village of Kushtil, who had refused to pay kickbacks to the gang in exchange for permission to run a business, according to the NAC.
The NAC said that Bagir Abayev, the leader of the Khiv gang, and militants Rasim Ramazanov and Shamil Shikhkerimov were killed, too.
A criminal armed group was spotted in a forest between the Derbent and Tabasaran districts of Dagestan in a security operation, the NAC said.
"It was part of the "Southern" subversive and terrorist group which has a series of grave crimes on its record, including murders of businessmen, servicemen and law enforcement officers, as well as bombings and extortions," the NAC said.
