Moldovan PM's party withdrawing from ruling coalition

CHISINAU. Feb 13 (Interfax) - Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat has announced the withdrawal of the Liberal-Democratic Party (LDPM) that he leads from the ruling Alliance for European Integration (AEI).

"The LDPM is pulling out of the AEI starting 2:00 p.m. February 13, 2013," Filat said at a news conference on Wednesday.

He, however, favored the preservation of the government and the parliamentary majority.

"We favor a revision of the agreement on setting up the AEI. It is necessary to revise the provisions concerning the distribution of offices based on political criteria and going against the existing laws. We are calling on our colleagues to immediately start discussing a new agreement on setting up the AEI," Filat said.

Withdrawing from the AEI agreement, "the LDPM remains committed to the government's pro-European program and a course toward European integration and is continuing to support the Cabinet of ministers and its governance program," he said.

Filat made it understood that the Cabinet may ask the parliament for a vote of confidence. He urged his colleagues to express political support of the government and preserve the parliamentary majority.
