Tajikistan posts budget surplus in 2012
DUSHANBE. Feb 19 (Interfax) - Tajikistan posted a budget surplus of 525.3 million somoni ($110.3 million at an average exchange rate), or 1.5% of GDP, in 2012, the Tajik statistics agency told Interfax.
The surplus was 120% up on 2011.
Revenue climbed 12.9%, or by 1.1 billion somoni, to 9.6 billion (26.5% of GDP), which was 1.7% over target.
Spending grew 9.9%, or by 816.9 million somoni, to 9.07 billion (25.1% of GDP), which was 5.4% lower than the forecast.
The average exchange rate in 2012 was 4.7627 somoni/$1.
The 2013 budget has been approved with a deficit of 210.5 million somoni, or 0.5% of GDP. Revenue is forecast at 11.89 billion and spending at 12.1 billion.
The budget in Tajikistan is usually adopted with a slight deficit, but at the end of the year there is tends to be a small surplus.
The official exchange rate on February 19 stood at 4.7544 somoni/$1.
