Courts abide by law - Supreme Court
MOSCOW. Feb 19 (Interfax) - Russian courts are part of the law enforcement system and they work guided by the law, Supreme Court spokesman Pavel Odintsov told Interfax on Tuesday in commenting on Federation Council Deputy Speaker Svetlana Orlova's proposal for banning American adoptions of Russian children under court orders already approved.
"The courts strictly abide by the law and act as part of the law enforcement system," he said.
The Supreme Court earlier explained that the court rulings on American adoptions of Russian children, passed earlier, must be implemented.
"A ban must be imposed immediately on American adoptions of Russian children, even on the court-approved permits, now that one more Russian child has been killed by his adoptive American parents. Why should we send our children deathwards?" Orlova told Interfax.
She said Maxim Kuzmin was the 20th Russian child to have been killed by adoptive American parents. Americans have adopted nearly 60,000 Russian children over the past 12 years, she also said.
